Yonas Tesfamariam bids farewell to TRR237 with triple honors
27.02.2026
Yonas Tesfamariam, a standout PhD student from TRR237's early days, leaves on an extraordinary high note—capping years of dedication with prestigious achievements.
On January 25, 2025, his paper "Poxvirus dsDNA genomes differentially activate AIM2 or NLRP3 inflammasomes in human primary cells" was published in The EMBO Journal. In Project A01 under Prof. Florian Schmidt at University Hospital Bonn, he defended his thesis "AIM2-inhibitory nanobodies reveal differential activation of AIM2 and NLRP3 inflammasomes by Poxvirus dsDNA genomes in primary human cells."
As the crowning honor, he'll receive the Bonner Forum Biomedicine PhD Award at their annual meeting on February 26-27, 2026.
From sledge driving down the Alps at the Obergurgl retreat in the early days to prize-winning success, Yonas embodied the TRR237 spirit. Congratulations, Dr. Tesfamariam—your impact endures!
