Pint of Science

18.05.2026 – 20.05.2026

res_med_pto_researcher_alexandra-thienelAlexandra Thienel will present her research at Pint of Science, an international festival that has successfully given scientists a relaxed stage before diverse public audiences for years—science up close in pubs and bars, with beer!

Alexandra works at the University Hospital Bonn's Institute of Virology in PD Dr. Beate Kümmerer's TRR237 project A04, investigating how the immune system senses viral RNA at the insect-vertebrate interface—with an eye toward better mRNA vaccines. Her focus: the role of RNA methylation and RNA glycosylation in tolerance to the body's own ("self") RNA.

Excited? Check the Pint of Science website to see when Alexandra's talk is scheduled during May 18-20, and hear firsthand how viruses use RNA modifications to trick our immune system—and whether they get away with it.
